The 2016 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Faconnières 1er Cru has an engaging and complex bouquet: red berry fruit, touches of Chinese tea and brown spices all well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, and a little chewy in the middle. It becomes fleshier towards the finish with a gentle grip. Whether it is a long-term prospect is another question - it needs more grip and substance to convince me of that and in fact, those develop with aeration. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

Morey-Saint-Denis Fine Wine

Morey-Saint-Denis

Morey-Saint-Denis, a prestigious appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is known for its elegant, well-structured Pinot Noir wines that balance the power of Gevrey-Chambertin and the finesse of Chambolle-Musigny. These wines feature flavours of red and black fruits, earthy spices, and floral notes, with refined tannins and excellent ageing potential. Home to five Grand Cru vineyards, including Clos de Tart and Clos Saint-Denis, top producers like Domaine Dujac, Domaine Ponsot, and Domaine des Lambrays are celebrated for their traditional winemaking and expressive wines.
